The President reviewed waste-to-energy plant projects in the regions
Uzbekistan, Tashkent – Podrobno.uz. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation of investment projects aimed at improving the waste management system, waste recycling, and electricity generation.
In 2026–2027, the country plans to implement 6 investment projects for electricity generation through waste incineration, with a total value of 933 million dollars, in cooperation with Chinese companies.
As of September 1, 286.8 million dollars in investments have already been utilized within these initiatives, and the volume of domestic goods and services purchased has reached 76.6 million dollars. Two thousand local workers have been involved in the construction work.
The projects cover the Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Tashkent, Andijan, Fergana, and Namangan regions. The plants in the Kashkadarya and Samarkand regions are scheduled to be launched in 2026, while the facilities in the remaining regions are set for 2027.
Once fully operational, 3.6 million tons of municipal solid waste will be processed annually, generating 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.
In addition, 5 more promising projects by companies from Singapore, South Korea, and China, valued at 625 million dollars, were reviewed during the presentation. They are planned for implementation in Karakalpakstan, as well as the Jizzakh, Surxondaryo, Bukhara, and Khorezm regions. This will allow for the annual processing of 1.9 million tons of waste, the generation of 635 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, the creation of 500 new jobs, the saving of 158 million cubic meters of natural gas, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 316 thousand tons.
The Head of State instructed to accelerate the implementation of the projects, create conditions for investors, increase the level of localization, and, in cooperation with "Green University", Samarkand State University, and Karshi State University, form a talent pool of 1,000 specialists.
