“The posts were directed at the US.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson commented on posts regarding Samarkand

Ismail Baghaei, the official spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed his views on the situation surrounding posts related to the historical heritage of Samarkand.

According to Ismail Baghaei, the posts published by certain embassies were actually prepared as an appeal directed at the US side.

“The ties connecting Iran and Uzbekistan did not appear today or yesterday. We attach great importance to our relations with Uzbekistan,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry representative said.

He also expressed confidence that the shared heritage existing in various regions of neighboring countries and even beyond will serve as a foundation for continuing and strengthening friendly ties between peoples.

It should be recalled that earlier, after Iran's diplomatic missions abroad referred to the monuments in Samarkand as belonging to the “Iranian-Islamic civilization” on the X social network, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan summoned the Iranian ambassador, handed over a note of protest, and demanded the deletion of the posts.

Following this demand, the relevant publications were removed from the network.
