The new president of FIDE was elected at the election held in Samarkand

The election took place at the FIDE Congress, which is being held as part of the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.

The new president of FIDE was determined in the election held in Samarkand. According to the report, Kazakh entrepreneur and financier Timur Turlov was elected President of the International Chess Federation at the FIDE General Assembly taking place in Samarkand.

Turlov became the eighth president in FIDE's history and was recorded as the first Kazakhstani to lead the organization.

German entrepreneurs Vadim Rosenstein and Jan Henrik Buettner competed against him for the presidency. Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand participated in the election alongside Turlov as a candidate for deputy president.
