A large-scale reconstruction of a 1.7-kilometer section of Mustaqillik Avenue has been completed. Not only the asphalt, but also traffic lights, bus stops, sidewalks, drainage, utility lines, and green spaces were renovated. The street is now ready for traffic in its updated format.
The work covered over 46,000 square meters of road surface. First, the old asphalt was completely milled, after which the base was reinforced. Then a 9-centimeter layer of coarse-grained asphalt concrete was laid.
For additional strength, nearly 58,000 square meters of basalt geogrid were used between the pavement layers. The top layer was 5-centimeter-thick polymer-stone-mastic asphalt concrete PSMA-20, which also covered 46,000 square meters. The work was completed with the application of new road markings.
Traffic management was also improved. New traffic lights were installed and intersection controls were modernized. Six modern bus stops were added for public transport passengers.
A separate set of works was carried out underground. To improve rainwater and wastewater drainage, 1,800 meters of existing drainage channels were replaced and another 1,600 meters were added where none previously existed. Additionally, 111 linear meters of metal pipes were laid and 500 meters of the existing system were renovated.
Pedestrian paths and crosswalks were created, and 3,400 meters of curbs were installed. 1,700 meters of irrigation pipes were also installed, and green areas along the street were landscaped.
The transformation was completed with the improvement of green areas along the avenue. As a result, Mustakillik Avenue has become a modern urban thoroughfare with a new road, convenient bus stops, landscaped sidewalks, and green spaces. Earlier, the traffic light at the intersection of Fitrat and Heydar Aliyev Streets was reconfigured, extending the green signal.
