The Central Bank will issue gold and silver coins dedicated to the Chess Olympiad

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan will issue gold and silver commemorative coins on the occasion of the 46th World Chess Olympiad being held in the city of Samarkand. This was announced by the regulator's press service.

The commemorative coins were designed based on the "Two coins — one Registan" concept. When the gold and silver coins are placed side by side, they form a complete image of the portal of the Registan Square.

The obverse of the coins depicts the architectural elements of the Tilla-Kori madrasah in Samarkand and chess pieces. The gold coin features the inscription "46-Butunjahon Shaxmat Olimpiadasi Samarqand-2026", while the silver coin bears the inscription "46th Fide Chess Olympiad Samarkand-2026".

The reverse side depicts the logo of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The coins also display the name of the Central Bank and the face value.

Each coin weighs 31.1 grams and has a face value of 100,000 soums.

Initially, 100 gold and 500 silver coins will be issued. According to the Central Bank, the circulation of the coins may be carried out in stages, depending on market demand and the interest of collectors.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan unveiled a collection of commemorative coins for the 35th anniversary of the country's independence. The collection includes three designs in 999.9-purity gold and silver, weighing 31.1 grams each and with a face value of 100,000 soums. Sales have begun at 690 commercial bank branches.

According to the draft, banknotes and coins will feature images representing the history of Uzbekistan, the country's achievements, nature, nationality and values. The inscriptions on the banknotes will be in the state language and in the Latin script.
