The Agency for Cultural Heritage issued a statement regarding information circulating on social media regarding the condition of the Chodra Khovli historical site, located in the Khiva district of the Khorezm region.
According to the agency, extensive restoration work was carried out at the site in 2022–2023 to preserve its historical and architectural appearance. The project was carried out by the Khiva Regional Restoration Center at the request of the Agency for Cultural Heritage and was financed from the state budget.
During the restoration, specialists repaired and reinforced the iwans and staircases. The exterior walls were covered with adobe plaster, and the interior walls with ganch. Modern construction solutions were avoided as much as possible during the work, strictly adhering to the traditional architectural style. In addition, the site's grounds have been improved, with paths laid and a night-time lighting system installed.
The site is currently under state protection, and further development of the surrounding tourist infrastructure is planned. The historical complex, built in 1871, served as the summer residence of the Khiva khans. The name "Chodra" comes from the Persian word "chordara," where "chor" means "four" and "dara" means "steep depth."
