It is proposed to lower the age limit for candidates for the position of judge from 35 to 30 years. It is also planned to initially appoint judges for a term of 5 years, followed by an indefinite term, and to grant retired judges the right to engage in professional mediation.

At the session of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis held on September 8, the draft law "On the Status of Judges" was considered in the first reading.
The draft law proposes to review certain requirements for candidates for judicial office. In particular, it is envisaged to lower the age limit for judges and people's assessors from 35 to 30 years.
It is also proposed to introduce a procedure for appointing a judge first for a term of 5 years, and then for an indefinite term. The requirements for the positions of judge, court chairman, and deputy chairman will also be strengthened.
The draft also defines norms regarding the social protection of judges and their family members.
The introduction of the institution of "retired judge" is also envisaged, and such judges may be granted the right to engage in professional mediation activities.
In addition, a number of norms aimed at the effective organization of the activities of the Supreme Court and lower courts' apparatus are being introduced.
At the end of the session, the draft law was adopted in the first reading. It was noted that the proposals and recommendations made by the deputies would be taken into account in preparing it for the second reading.
