**Tennis. Novak Djokovic drops out of the top ten for the first time in 9 years**

The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) has released its weekly updated rankings. According to it, Serbia's Novak Djokovic lost 790 points and fell from 5th to 12th place. With this, for the first time since October 2002, none of the members of the "Big Three" — Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal — remain in the top ten of the world rankings.

The 39-year-old Djokovic is currently the only tennis player from the "Big Three" still active. Federer retired from professional tennis in 2022, and Nadal in 2024. Federer ended his sporting career at the age of 41, while Nadal retired at 38.

The reason for Djokovic's drop in the rankings was his unsuccessful performance at the US Open. The Serbian tennis player lost to Argentina's Mariano Navone in the very first round of the tournament in New York. Thus, for the first time in nearly 20 years, Djokovic was defeated in the opening round of a Grand Slam tournament.

The Serbian tennis player has 24 Grand Slam titles to his name. Nadal won Grand Slam tournaments 22 times, while Federer won 20 times.

Additionally, Novak held the number one spot in the ATP rankings for 428 weeks.

Among the "Big Three" members, Federer entered the ATP top 10 in October 2002 and did not leave it until the end of 2016. The Swiss legend maintained the top spot in the rankings for 237 consecutive weeks.

Nadal entered the top 10 in April 2005 and remained in the top ten for 912 consecutive weeks until 2023. Djokovic made his top 10 debut in 2007. In 2017, due to an elbow injury, he finished the season in 12th place.

In the updated rankings, Italy's Jannik Sinner leads, US Open winner Alexander Zverev of Germany is second, and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz is third. US Open finalist Ben Shelton climbed five positions to reach 4th place.

For reference, in the final of the US Open — the last Grand Slam tournament of the season in men's tennis — Zverev defeated Shelton to become the US Open champion for the first time in his career.
