Tajikistan opens new 30,000-seat National Stadium in Dushanbe

Dushanbe, Tajikistan, has inaugurated its new National Stadium, a 30,000-plus-seat venue equipped to meet FIFA's international football match standards. The opening ceremony for the State Institution "National Stadium" on August 21 was attended by President Emomali Rahmon and Dushanbe Mayor Rustami Emomali, preceding Tajikistan's 35th state independence anniversary.

Spanning 9.5 hectares in the capital, the sports complex features two-tiered spectator stands: over 12,000 seats on the lower level and approximately 18,000 on the upper. The facility, classified as a Category II stadium, was built to FIFA standards to host both domestic and international football competitions.

The stadium building covers about 27,000 square meters, with a total floor area exceeding 42,000 square meters. Standing 33 meters tall, it comprises five floors and a basement. Four main sectors manage spectator flow and operations. At its core is a 7,140-square-meter football pitch, measuring 105 by 68 meters, in line with FIFA's international match requirements. The overall sports area extends to 130 by 87 meters, providing additional space for technical and safety needs.

Spectator access is facilitated by 68 electronic turnstiles. The layout of entrances, two-tier stands, and circulation areas is designed to optimize crowd management, minimize congestion, and provide clear evacuation routes. The stadium is also outfitted with advanced technology for match broadcasting and event management, including two 133-square-meter LED screens for displaying match information and replays.

Illumination is provided by 312 Philips floodlights, engineered to support HD and 4K television broadcasting. An additional 66 lighting fixtures are available for ceremonies and large-scale events. The stadium's audio system features 88 professional loudspeakers strategically placed to ensure sound distribution throughout spectator areas.

For video and broadcasting, the infrastructure includes 50 CCTV cameras and 10 standard cameras, supporting security monitoring, match recording, and broadcasting. Fire safety is addressed with over 1,000 intelligent fire alarms installed throughout the building, along with monitoring and detection equipment.

Four dedicated dressing rooms, accommodating a total of 104 athletes, have been created to support competitions with multiple teams and consecutive matches. The stadium also offers separate facilities for official guests: one VVIP lounge with 32 seats, 34 VIP lounges with 306 seats, and 26 CIP lounges providing 416 seats. Skybox-style rooms and administrative offices are also integrated into the complex.

The main facade, constructed with aluminum panels, incorporates a media projection system covering over 30,000 square meters, capable of displaying graphics and images on the stadium's exterior. Parking capacity exceeds 750 vehicles, and more than 3,000 square meters of the surrounding area have been landscaped with trees, flowers, and shrubs.

A stainless steel fountain, shaped like President Rahmon's signature, has been installed at the main entrance, serving as a distinctive architectural feature of the complex.

This new stadium is part of Tajikistan's ongoing efforts to develop its sports and football infrastructure. The nation's football history dates back to the early Soviet era, with its first championship in 1937. Since gaining independence, Tajikistan has implemented various legal and policy frameworks for sports development, including legislation on physical culture and sports, a strategy for sports and healthy lifestyles, a multi-stage football development program, and a national concept for physical culture and sport.

Tajikistan has also increased its involvement in international football. Its national under-17 team has qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup four times, and the country has hosted over 30 Central Asian Football Association competitions in the last decade. The Tajikistan Football Federation has also received accolades from the Asian Football Confederation for its youth football development programs.
