Tajikistan has nominated its candidacy for the UN Security Council for the first time

Tajikistan has, for the first time in its history, nominated itself for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term. This was announced by the Republic's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The head of the foreign ministry noted that membership in the Security Council carries a great responsibility for preserving the organization's Charter and maintaining international peace. In his speech, he also congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term and recalled Tajikistan's initiatives related to the protection of glaciers, water resources, the fight against terrorism, and the development of artificial intelligence.

In addition, Tajikistan supported the "UN-80" reform process initiated by Secretary-General António Guterres in March 2025. This program aims to increase the efficiency of the global organization's work by optimizing resources, reviewing outdated mandates, and implementing structural transformations.

As a reminder, Uzbekistan previously nominated its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2035–2036 term. This was announced by the Head of the Presidential Administration, Saida Mirziyoyeva, speaking on behalf of the country at the same session.
