The Nations League remains an experimental ground for national team head coaches. In the match for the group leadership, both coaches fielded goalkeepers who are virtually unknown to anyone: the French goal was guarded by Restes from Toulouse, while the Belgian goal was protected by Vandevoordt from RB Leipzig.

Zidane's players immediately took the initiative and organized high pressing when losing the ball. Mark van Bommel's team, on the other hand, defended in a low block. The visitors managed to work with the ball inside the opponent's penalty area only in the middle of the first half, and a dangerous situation arose immediately. However, Raskin's header went slightly wide.

The French, meanwhile, struggled to convert their chances throughout the half. Barcola failed to score even in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Before the break, the visitors took the lead. The French pressing did not yield results, and Lavia sent the ball from the other half of the pitch into the open space behind the opponent's defense; Lukebakio, playing on the offside line, reached the ball and left no chance for the goalkeeper.

The picture did not change in the second half: the hosts increased the pressure but could not beat the defenders and the goalkeeper. After that, Zidane was forced to turn to his substitutes, and Olise, Cherki, and da Cunha, and later Doué, entered the pitch all at once. At first, Vandevoordt continued to make saves, but France completely turned the game around within four minutes.

Doué received the ball from Da Cunha outside the penalty area, hit a low shot into the far corner, and equalized the score.
