Sports and Friendship: Around 400 Students Took Part in a Large-Scale Universiade in Tashkent | Report
The III Universiade among students of branches of Russian universities and state higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan is taking place in Tashkent.
Designed for three action-packed days, the competitions have already become an autumn sports event for the student community: this year they gathered around 400 students from 14 universities across the country.
The program of the Universiade includes four disciplines: futsal, basketball, volleyball, and chess. The competitions take place simultaneously at several venues, and the tension does not drop for a minute. In chess bouts, as well as in dynamic volleyball and basketball matches, young men and women compete in separate categories, demonstrating a high level of preparation, tactical training, and a drive for victory.
By tradition, special interest among spectators is drawn by futsal matches among men's teams — the stands non-stop support their favorites with loud chants and applause.
The Universiade is being held for the third time and has secured its status as a traditional platform for youth cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan. As noted by the organizers and team mentors, the project goes far beyond purely sports goals: it popularizes a healthy lifestyle, fosters team spirit, and, most importantly, helps young people from different educational institutions get to know each other, exchange experience, and build strong friendships.
The organizer of the large-scale celebration is the Representation of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Uzbekistan (Russian House in Tashkent).
