“Significant casualties” were reported after a fire on a cargo ship in eastern China

A fire broke out on a foreign-flagged cargo vessel docked at a port in eastern China, resulting in significant casualties, state media reported.

President Xi Jinping urged immediate search and rescue operations and a rapid investigation.

According to state news agency Xinhua, the ship was being maintained at a shipyard in Qingdao when the fire started at 11:15 local time (03:15 GMT).
