Shavkat Mirziyoyev traveled from Urgench to Khiva via the new railway

Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived from Urgench to Khiva via a new railway line.

On August 17, Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the new railway line connecting the Urgench International Airport and the Khiva railway station and arrived in Khiva on a new electric train installed on this route.

According to the presidential press service, a new 11-kilometer railway line connecting the Urgench International Airport and the railway station was built as part of a project worth 225 billion soums. One station, a bridge, road intersections, and 25 water supply structures were built on this route.

The new route will allow the transportation of about 650,000 local and foreign tourists per year. The travel time between Khiva and Urgench will be halved, from 80 minutes to 40 minutes. About 30 new jobs have been created. Such a project, directly connecting the airport and the railway, was implemented for the first time in the country. A Chinese-made CR200J electric train is being launched on the Urgench International Airport - Khiva route.

This six-car electric train can carry about 400 passengers at a time. It travels at speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. The cars have VIP, business and economy class seats, free Wi-Fi, the ability to charge electronic devices, modern air conditioning and heating systems. Necessary conditions have also been created for people with disabilities.

The head of state arrived in Khiva on a new electric train. In Khiva, the president also inspected new trolleybuses that will be put into service on the route connecting Urgench International Airport and Khiva Railway Station.

It is noted that 10 trolleybuses imported from China in July 2026 are equipped with a modern autonomous propulsion system and can travel up to 100 kilometers without being connected to the power grid. Each trolleybus is designed for 87 passengers. They are equipped with amenities for people with disabilities, the elderly and passengers with children, USB and Type-C ports, internal and external surveillance cameras. There are also safety systems such as driver status monitoring, lane departure warning, and automatic fire extinguishing.

The initiative to bring these modern vehicles was put forward by the president during his visit to the Khorezm region last year.

The head of state noted that the harmonization of transport modes will create convenience for residents and tourists, reduce travel time, and increase the tourist attractiveness of the region. Relevant instructions were given to officials to ensure safe and high-quality service for passengers.
