Senate of Uzbekistan approves amendments to the consumer protection law

At its 19th plenary session, the Senate of Uzbekistan approved the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Article 14 of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan 'On Protection of Consumer Rights'".

The introduced amendments clarify the legal grounds and procedure for conducting an additional quality check of goods in cases where it is impossible to establish the presence of a defect or determine its cause by the appearance of the product.

According to the changes, an additional check may be ordered if defects in the goods are discovered after their sale to the consumer due to a violation of the established rules of storage or use. Such a procedure is also provided for when it is impossible to determine from the appearance of the goods whether the defect arose as a result of the actions of third parties.

The document defines the procedure and terms for conducting an additional check, as well as the procedure for the consumer's participation in it and the reimbursement of expenses associated with conducting the examination.

The consumer is granted the right to be personally present during the additional quality check or to participate through their representative. In addition, they will be able to independently organize such a check at their own expense.

During the discussion, it was noted that in recent years, large-scale reforms aimed at strengthening consumer protection, including through the development of a competitive environment, have been implemented in Uzbekistan.

According to the senators, the adoption of the law will increase the effectiveness of consumer protection mechanisms and create more stable and reliable legal conditions for market participants.

Following the review, the law was approved by the senators.
