Senate approves law on inadmissibility of sexual harassment at work

The Senate of Uzbekistan has supported amendments to the Labor Code that explicitly prohibit sexual harassment in the workplace and expand the list of grounds for discrimination against employees.

The relevant law was considered at a plenary session of the upper house of parliament. The changes were prepared to integrate international standards and conventions of the International Labour Organization into national legislation.

The document officially establishes the inadmissibility of any form of sexual harassment in the workplace and in the sphere of employment. In addition, skin color and political views are now officially included among the grounds for potential discrimination in labor relations.

According to the senators, the new norms will help strengthen labor guarantees, ensure equal opportunities in the workplace, and more effectively prevent discrimination against employees. Following the discussion, the law was approved.

Previously, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved a law providing for life imprisonment for sexual violence against children under the age of 14.
