Scientists have identified products that cause insomnia and nightmares

Consuming dairy products and sweets before going to sleep can cause insomnia and nightmares, writes the Daily Mail, relying on a study in the journal Frontiers in Psychology.

The study authors asked 1,082 students with an average age of 20 to complete a 19-item questionnaire on sleep quality over the course of a month. According to their conclusion, those who consumed dairy products, sweets, meat, and spicy food before sleep suffered more from insomnia and night terrors.

The study also identified a link between lactose intolerance and nightmares. In individuals with lactose deficiency, a significant deterioration in sleep quality was observed, regardless of what they snacked on.

At the same time, it is noted that 20 percent of the study participants managed to improve their sleep by consuming fruits, herbal tea, and vegetables at night.
