Samsung to permanently stop Galaxy Note production

Samsung Electronics has announced the permanent cessation of manufacturing for its Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, a move that follows its decision the previous day to halt worldwide sales of the troubled handsets. In a regulatory filing submitted on Tuesday, the South Korean tech giant confirmed its definitive choice to discontinue production, citing consumer safety as the paramount concern. This decision comes as Samsung grapples with efforts to restore consumer confidence, which was shaken by an initial series of recalls. The company had previously ceased sales of the device upon discovering that even the replacement Note 7 units, intended to be safer, were also prone to igniting. On Monday, South Korean media outlets had reported that Samsung's manufacturing facilities had ceased producing the fire-prone phones, though at the time, Samsung maintained it was merely implementing production adjustments aimed at enhancing inspections and quality control.
