Russian frigate fired signal flares at Danish military helicopter
On September 14, a Russian frigate fired signal flares at a helicopter of the Danish Armed Forces.
According to reports, two signal flares were fired toward the helicopter as a warning.
"Today, one of the Air Force's Fennec-type helicopters was fired upon with signal flares during a routine photo-documentation of a Russian frigate in international waters near the coast of Gedser," the Danish Armed Forces said in a statement.
Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said on September 15 that this situation is absolutely unacceptable.
"In this connection, the Russian ambassador has been summoned to discuss the incident... Russia is gradually pushing the boundaries of behavior it considers acceptable. We cannot tolerate this," the minister said.
Signal flares are pyrotechnic devices used at sea to attract attention, indicate location, or give warnings.
As a reminder, on September 15, NATO fighter jets shot down a drone that entered Lithuanian airspace. It is suspected to have been launched from Belarus. Lithuania's National Crisis Management Center has not yet determined who owns the drone.
