Russia has proposed reducing the number of migrants to 3 million by 2030.

As Podrobno.uz reports from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Andrei Lugovoi, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, expressed the opinion that family members of migrants should not be granted entry and residence permits in Russia unless they themselves are employed or studying in the country.

The deputy believes it is necessary to impose limits on the number of migrants in the Russian Federation. He proposed a gradual reduction in the number of foreign citizens: to 5 million by the end of 2027, to 4 million by the end of 2028, and to 3 million by 2030. At the same time, he stated, the principle of residence must be clear: illegal presence, violation of the law, or expiration of the grounds for residence should result in deportation or return to the home country.

Furthermore, Lugovoi emphasized the importance of reducing the permissible share of foreign labor in sectors such as construction, trade, transportation, and agriculture, with the goal of bringing it to 10% by 2030. He noted that employers will be required to confirm that the migrants they hire are truly essential to the economy and not being used to reduce wage costs for Russian citizens.
