Russia plans to allocate 136 billion rubles in three years for a new space station

To create the Russian orbital station and ensure its operation, a total of 136.72 billion rubles is planned to be allocated from the federal budget in 2027–2029. Of this, nearly 38.6 billion rubles will be allocated for 2027.

Russia plans to allocate 136 billion rubles over three years for a new space station. Information about this is provided in the materials attached to the draft federal budget of Russia.

According to the plan, part of the funds allocated for 2027 will be directed towards developing the infrastructure necessary for the implementation of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) project. In particular, it is envisaged to allocate nearly 2.1 billion rubles for the creation of the space complex's ground infrastructure. Another nearly 2.36 billion rubles are planned for the capital construction of facilities necessary to build the station.

The explanatory note of the draft budget also outlines expenditures under the "Manned Spaceflight" federal project. According to it, the planned allocations are:

In 2027 — nearly 112.46 billion rubles;

In 2028 — nearly 107.8 billion rubles;

In 2029 — nearly 119.5 billion rubles.

These figures relate to the broader "Manned Spaceflight" project, and not all of them are intended solely for the construction of the orbital station.

The 136.72 billion rubles specified for the ROS also does not represent the final cost of the station over its entire construction period. This is the amount earmarked in the draft budget for its creation and operation support during the years 2027–2029.
