Overdue loans to banks have increased sharply

In Uzbekistan, the volume of non-performing loans (NPLs) in banks increased by 32.5 percent within seven months. The report published by the Central Bank presents the value of loans that were not repaid on time.

As of August 1, 2026, non-performing loans in the republic's banks amounted to 23.93 trillion soums. At the beginning of the year, this figure was 18.05 trillion soums. This means that in seven months, non-performing loans increased by 5.9 trillion soums or 32.5 percent.

### Large share in state-owned banks

Almost 16.8 trillion soums, or 70.2 percent, of the overdue non-performing loans are accounted for by state-owned banks. This amount is 3.97 trillion soums or 30.9 percent higher than at the beginning of the current year.

The largest share of unpaid loans fell to the National Bank — 3.2 trillion soums, and Agrobank — 3.18 trillion soums. In terms of the volume of non-performing loans, the next positions were recorded by Microcreditbank (2.3 trillion soums), Uzpromstroybank (1.9 trillion soums), and Asaka Bank (1.8 trillion soums).

Also, 1.53 trillion soums of loans allocated by Xalq Bank and Business Development Bank each were not repaid on time.

During the seven months, Microcreditbank was the bank with the highest increase in non-performing loans. Its overdue loans at the beginning of the year were 894 billion soums. By August, this amount reached almost 1.4 trillion soums.

### Indicators of private banks

7.12 trillion soums, or 29.8 percent of the total volume of formed non-performing loans, were allocated by private banks. This figure is 1.9 trillion soums or 36.5 percent more compared to the beginning of the year.

The largest part of overdue loans fell to Kapitalbank — 1.2 trillion soums. Ipoteka-bank failed to collect 1.1 trillion soums, and TBC Bank failed to collect 1.03 trillion soums of debt on time.

946 billion soums of loans allocated by Anorbank turned into non-performing loans. In the remaining private banks, the share of unpaid loans is less than 400 billion soums.

Within seven months, non-performing loans grew fastest in Anorbank by 467 billion soums and in TBC Bank by 446 billion soums.

Out of a total of 34 banks, only Oktobank, Uzum Bank, KDB Bank Uzbekistan, and Saderat Bank were recorded as having no non-performing loans on their accounts.

In general, the share of non-performing loans in the republic has increased significantly over the last five years. In particular, on January 1, 2021, total overdue loans were 5.8 trillion soums. A year later, this figure suddenly rose to 17 trillion soums. This sharp increase coincided with the pandemic and the subsequent recovery period. In January 2023, non-performing loans worth 14 trillion soums were recorded, and at the beginning of 2024, 16.6 trillion soums. In January 2025, non-performing loans exceeded 21 trillion soums.
