Operator sentenced to three years’ house arrest over fatal fall from amusement ride
The woman, a resident of Pop district, went to the park with relatives on June 12, 2026, and got on a ride called Tornado. According to the documents, she fell during a downward turn, hit her head on a metal part of the ride and died at the scene.
The operator initially refused to allow her to ride, but later changed his mind. “I told the deceased that she could not ride because she was elderly and heavy. But she said she had come from far away and would regret not riding. So I allowed her on,” the defendant said. He added that she sat alone in a two-person seat because of her weight.
The head of the private company that owns the ride told the court that afterward the operator said the metal safety bar had been closed but not tied with a rope.
A forensic medical examination found that the woman’s skull was fractured and her brain was severely damaged, and listed brain injury as the cause of death.
The woman’s son told the court that he had no claims against the defendant and asked for leniency.
The Chust district court found the defendant, identified only as F.S., guilty under Part 3 of Article 116 of the Criminal Code. It also banned him for two years from working in any role involving responsibility on all types of rides.
Earlier, four people were reported injured and hospitalized when a ride broke down at a leisure park in the city of Jizzakh.
