Nvidia head arrives in Astana: What is Kazakhstan doing in the field of artificial intelligence?

During his first visit to Kazakhstan, Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang proposed transforming the country into a global hub for the development of robotics and Physical AI technologies that interact with the physical environment. The visit drew heightened attention to Kazakhstan's new economic strategy, which relies on large-scale computing power, data centers, and local technology companies.

Head of Nvidia arrives in Astana: What is Kazakhstan doing in the field of artificial intelligence?

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, arrived in Astana on October 23. He met with Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart, and got acquainted with the country's artificial intelligence infrastructure and technological ecosystem.

NVIDIA is a major US tech company that produces graphics processing units and computing technologies for artificial intelligence. Its chips are widely used in training and running AI models, as well as in building supercomputers and data centers.

An open conversation held at the alem.ai international artificial intelligence center in Astana with Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev became one of the main events of the visit and was broadcast live on YouTube.

Huang identified Kazakhstan's energy resources, engineering potential, and the bringing of artificial intelligence to the level of state policy as important advantages. In his view, rather than limiting itself to exporting energy resources, the country can use them to bring valuable AI products and services to external markets.

“In the future, instead of exporting only energy, you can convert energy into intelligence and export intelligence,” said the head of Nvidia.

Developing artificial intelligence requires large volumes of electricity, data, and computing power. From this point of view, according to Jensen Huang, Kazakhstan's natural resources and opportunities for training technological personnel can give the country an advantage in international competition.

The head of Nvidia noted that Kazakhstan also has the opportunity to become an international hub in the field of Physical AI. This area covers the interaction of artificial intelligence with robots, autonomous transport, manufacturing equipment, and other physical systems.

According to Huang, the development of sectors such as mining, agriculture, logistics, and energy in Kazakhstan creates opportunities for developing and testing such technologies.
