Nigerian film star Ogogo dies from cancer aged 66

Nollywood is grieving the loss of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, widely recognized as Ogogo, who passed away at 66 after a battle with cancer. The acclaimed star of Yoruba-language cinema was a beloved figure in Nigeria's vibrant film industry.
His daughter, Kira Hassan, shared the heartbreaking news during an emotional Instagram live broadcast on Sunday, visibly struggling with her grief.
According to fellow actor Prince Jide Kosoko, Ogogo's burial is scheduled for Monday in his hometown in Ogun state, south-west Nigeria, in accordance with Muslim customs.
Tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and fans for Ogogo, who became one of the most recognizable faces in Yoruba cinema.
Before achieving on-screen fame, Ogogo dedicated approximately 13 years to working as a mechanic at the Ogun State Water Corporation. He began his acting career in 1981, balancing it with his mechanic work, before fully committing to performing in 1994.
Throughout his career, Ogogo garnered numerous awards and critical praise, notably for his portrayal of the Alaafin of Oyo, the most revered king in Yorubaland, in the film *Anikulapo*.
