Nearly 14 Kilograms of Opium Seized in Jizzakh Region
Security and customs officers in Uzbekistan seized 13.65 kilograms of suspected opium in Jizzakh region, launching criminal charges against three suspects.
**Opium Haul: Almost 14 kg Intercepted in Jizzakh Region**
The State Security Service (SGB) has announced the confiscation of 13.653 kilograms of a substance believed to be opium in the Yangiabad district of Jizzakh region. The seizure was a collaborative effort involving officers from the Tashkent Regional Department of the SGB and customs officials.
In connection with this operation, criminal proceedings have been initiated against three individuals.
The action was part of broader operational measures undertaken by law enforcement across the Syrdarya and Jizzakh regions, targeting the illicit drug trade. During these efforts, authorities inspected a temporary dwelling inhabited by a 41-year-old Tashkent resident, who has a history of criminal convictions.
Present at the residence were a 43-year-old citizen of Tajikistan and a 64-year-old individual from the Kashkadarya region, who also has a prior conviction for drug-related offenses.
Investigators determined that these three men had colluded to retrieve narcotics that had been previously hidden in a secret stash within the Yangiabad district of Jizzakh region. These drugs, investigators found, had been placed there by couriers originating from neighboring Tajikistan, with the suspects' intention being to sell and distribute them for profit.
Following the initial inspection, law enforcement personnel extended their operation to the location of the hidden stash. There, officers successfully recovered and impounded the 13.653 kilograms of suspected opium, with all procedures meticulously documented as required by law.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspects, and investigative activities are currently in progress.
