Nakamura: "My team was defeated in the match against Javahir Sindorov"
American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura spoke about the events that occurred during the preparation for the match against Uzbek chess player Javahir Sindorov as part of the Candidates Tournament. He noted that his team defeated him in this match.
"One of the main reasons for my success in creating content is the strong team around me. I usually don't interfere much in the process and I completely trust my people.
That was the case for most of the preparation for the Candidates Tournament - I relaxed my control a little. I handed everything over to analysts. Maybe I should have rechecked everything myself... But in this situation I was more upset with my team.
I wasn't 100% sure who made the mistake during the game. But honestly, the team let me down. As soon as the game was over, I asked my assistant Chris Littlejohn: 'Was there a castling in the file?' And he replied: 'No, there wasn't, it was our mistake,'" says the grandmaster.
For information, the Uzbek player Javohir Sindorov won the Challengers Tournament held in Paphos, Cyprus, from March 28 to April 16. Sindorov won the first match between the chess players, and the second round ended in a draw. It is noteworthy that Nakamura took exactly 67 minutes to think about a single move in the first game against Javohir. Despite his rich experience, the American grandmaster could not find a way out of the trap set by his young opponent. In the end, he made a mistake and was defeated.
