Mourinho: "Messi was a big problem for us"

Former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has spoken about the Argentine forward Lionel Messi's time at Barcelona. According to the Portuguese expert, Messi was the biggest headache for Madrid at that time.

"He was a real headache for us. What could we do to stop him? I understood from the first game that we could not play like Barcelona and be better than them. To beat them, we had to be completely different both on and off the field.

We were fierce rivals on the football field, fighting for one cup, one league and one Champions League. I think it was a great rivalry," Mourinho was quoted as saying by Ole.

Recall that Lionel Messi defended the honor of Barcelona from 2003 to 2021. The Argentine star played in a total of 520 matches for the Catalan club, scoring 474 goals and providing 216 assists.
