Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) — In the first month of the launch of the target mortgage deposit system in Uzbekistan, 338 citizens took advantage of this opportunity. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as of August 1, the total amount of funds in the opened accounts reached 23.9 billion soums.

Of the total funds, 13.8 billion soums (57%) were formed at the expense of citizens' personal funds, while the remaining 10.1 billion soums (43%) were transferred from the state budget.

The largest number of target mortgage deposits was opened at Agrobank. The bank's clients registered 141 deposits worth a total of 9.7 billion soums, which is 41 percent of the total funds.

In second place is the Business Development Bank, which attracted 65 deposits and 4.6 billion soums. In the People's Bank, 50 deposits worth 3.4 billion soums were opened, which is 14% of the total volume.

In terms of regions, Fergana and Khorezm regions are leading, with 45 target mortgage deposits opened in each. The lowest figure was recorded in Syrdarya region, where four deposits were registered.

According to the ministry, the highest interest rates on this type of deposit are offered by Hamkorbank at 18 percent per annum and by Business Development Bank at 16 percent per annum.

The target mortgage deposit mechanism has been operating in Uzbekistan on an experimental basis since July 1, 2026.

Such a deposit can be opened by citizens who are approved for a mortgage subsidy. The state transfers funds to the account to cover part of the down payment, and the borrower contributes the rest independently. The amount of personal funds depends on the cost of housing and loan terms, and the deposit term does not exceed 12 months.

The experiment with the introduction of the new mechanism will last until December 31, 2026.
