More than 25 thousand migrants have been secretly deported from the US
Since January 2025, the Donald Trump administration has secretly deported more than 25,000 migrants from the US to countries with which they had no ties. This is stated in an investigation by the Forbidden Stories journalists' consortium.
According to the organizations Refugees International and Human Rights First, about 20,000 people were taken by bus to Mexico. More than 5,000 others were sent by plane to countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Central Asia. Often, from these third countries, the deported people were then returned to their homelands, where their lives or freedom could be in danger.
The authors of the investigation claim that the US has entered into tacit agreements to accept deported migrants with at least 35 states, though neither Russia nor Ukraine is among them. To date, 28 countries have already accepted people under these agreements, and another 7 have committed to doing so later.
According to Forbidden Stories, citizens of Uzbekistan were deported from the US to 4 countries: Costa Rica, Panama, the Central African Republic, and Moldova. In 2025, several special flights departed from the United States with citizens of Uzbekistan on board. In August, 18 citizens of Uzbekistan were delivered to Tashkent International Airport on a special charter flight. Prior to that, on the morning of June 11, another charter flight arrived from the US with 24 citizens of Uzbekistan. Even earlier, 26 citizens of Uzbekistan returned on a charter flight from the US.
