Monzo down as some users unable to make card payments or transfers

The digital bank said it was "rolling out a fix and moving quickly" to get the service working again

Monzo is experiencing an outage, leaving some customers unable to complete card transactions or transfers.

The banking service acknowledged "some issues" and implemented a stand-in backup service. This backup was intended to allow users to continue making transactions such as card payments and bank transfers.

However, Monzo later stated that its Stand-in service was "not working as expected," with some users still reporting an inability to use their cards.

The company announced it is "rolling out a fix and moving quickly to get full service back up and running for everyone."

Established in 2015, Monzo is a British digital bank that operates without physical branches, focusing instead on a mobile application. The firm reports having over 16 million personal and business customers globally.

While addressing the problem, Monzo indicated that its independent service, Monzo Stand-in, would enable users to "make card payments, withdraw cash, freeze your card, send and receive bank transfers, and more."

Despite this, some users continue to report difficulties. One X user commented, "I can't use my card for anything at the moment." Another stated, "Your 'backup' bank does not have the functionality you state it does. I can't make bank transfers right now."
