Meta agrees to pay up to $16.7bn to settle social media case
The deal has been reached during a California federal court trial over claims brought by 29 states.
Social media behemoth Meta has consented to a settlement of as much as $16.7 billion to conclude a legal dispute concerning child safety on its platforms.
The agreement, reached with 29 US states, will see the technology firm disburse a maximum of $16.68 billion (£12.26 billion), as per court filings.
Under the terms of the court's ruling, Meta is mandated to implement specific regulations for its adolescent users, such as daily usage caps and restrictions during nighttime hours.
Despite agreeing to the settlement, Meta maintained its innocence regarding any wrongdoing.
