Management of regional electricity networks in Samarkand region to be transferred to Turkish investors

The management of the Samarkand regional power grids will be transferred to the Turkish company Aksa Enerji. This issue was discussed at a presentation to the President on fuel and energy resources on August 13.

According to the Minister of Energy Sherzod Khojayev, for the first time in Uzbekistan, electricity distribution networks are being transferred to the management of the private sector with the condition of investment. According to the results of an international tender held in the Samarkand region, the Turkish company Aksa Enerji was declared the winner.

The minister said in an interview with the Uzbekiston 24 TV channel: "The company will implement a project to operate existing networks and build new ones in the Samarkand region. In the process of implementing this project, the Turkish company will bring its achievements and experience in Turkey and foreign countries. All employees of the Samarkand regional power grids will be hired by the Turkish company. According to their calculations, only 10-15 specialists will come from abroad, and all the rest will be carried out by specialists from the republic."

According to the press service of the President, the President has given an instruction to implement similar work in other regions, based on the experience of Samarkand. It is planned that the Turkish company will purchase at least 90 percent of the products for the construction, reconstruction and modernization of networks in the process of operating in Uzbekistan from the domestic market, that is, from local manufacturers.

In August 2024, it was announced that the transfer of management of regional electricity networks to the private sector will begin in Uzbekistan. It was stated that this would be implemented first in the Samarkand region, then in Jizzakh and Syrdarya. The Turkish company Aksa Enerji was declared the winner of the international tender for the transfer of electricity distribution networks in Samarkand to the private sector management with the condition of investment, and in November 2025 the company was awarded a winning bid.
