Malaysian club sets world record for consecutive wins

Johor set a new world record for the most consecutive victories in the country's championships.
The team defeated Kuching City 3-0 in the first round of the Malaysian Super League, winning its 109th consecutive victory. With this result, Johor surpassed the 108-game winning streak, which belonged to the Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas club and ended in 1994.
Johor is also the absolute record holder for the number of total victories in the Malaysian championship. The club has won the tournament 12 times and has won the championship for 12 consecutive seasons.
For information, the full name of the club is Johor Darul Ta'zim, and it was founded in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The team adopted its current name in 2013 and is owned by the Crown Prince of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris.
JDT won its first Malaysian championship in 2014 under Croatian coach Bojan Hodak. In 2015, under Argentine coach Mario Gomez, the team won the Malaysian Super League and the AFC Cup. Thus, Johor became the first Malaysian club to win the AFC Cup and a continental trophy.
From 2014 to 2026, the team was the Malaysian champion for 12 consecutive seasons. Before that, no team in the country had managed to win the championship more than twice in a row since the introduction of the league system in 1982.
Johor Darul Ta'zim will play their home matches at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, which has a capacity of 40,000 spectators.
