US President Donald Trump had published a map where the territory of the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon in the Atlantic Ocean was colored with the US flag. French President Emmanuel Macron reacted to this.
Macron visited Saint Pierre on September 19 and said that this territory belongs to France and is closely linked to it. He emphasized that this issue is "not up for discussion."
"We do not intend to repeat this every morning just because people are getting strange ideas or making strange statements," the French President said.
Saint Pierre and Miquelon is a former French colony located in the Atlantic Ocean, near the coast of Canada. In 2003, the archipelago received the special status of an overseas collectivity of France.
On September 7, Trump published a map on his Truth Social network where a large part of North America and the Caribbean was covered with the US flag.
In addition to Mexico, Canada, and Cuba, Greenland and Iceland were also included "as part of the US." Several French territories, including Martinique, Guadeloupe, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Martin, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, were also depicted among the territories colored in US colors.
