Kyrgyzstan increases coal exports to Uzbekistan

Kyrgyzstan has significantly increased its coal exports to Uzbekistan. In the first six months of 2026, coal became one of the most profitable products for Kyrgyzstan, with a trade surplus of more than $44,725,700. As a result, exports of coal and lignite exceeded imports by 7.5 times. According to the National Statistics Committee, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and China were the main export destinations.
Coal exports increased further in June. In the first half of the year, exports of coal, lignite and petroleum coke from Kyrgyzstan reached $51,619,500. The export pace in June was high, increasing by 171,787.7 tons (or $8,727,500) in one month.
For six months, Kyrgyzstan sold 626,562.3 tons of coal worth $29,624,900, which is 10.7% more than in the same period of 2025. The main buyers were:
* Uzbekistan – 600,137.8 tons worth $28,695.3 million;
* China – 24,487.5 tons worth $818.6 million.
In January-June, brown coal exports increased by 52.8% in volume and amounted to 385,946.5 tons worth $21,910.9 million. Sales increased especially sharply in June. The main buyers of Kyrgyz lignite are:
* Uzbekistan – 253,604.8 tons worth $13,276.2 million;
* Tajikistan – 81,927.3 tons worth $7,737.4 million;
* China – 49,407.7 tons worth $776,000.
Also, 262.8 tons of coke and petroleum bitumen worth $83,700 were delivered to Uzbekistan. It was recently reported that Uzbekistan has also become the main buyer of Kyrgyz cattle. Over the past six months, Bishkek has sold more than 14,800 heads of cattle abroad, and almost all of this batch was purchased by Uzbeks.
