Kulubayev spoke about the progress of construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan road
Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are participating in the construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, worth $4.7 billion.
Kulubayev reported on the progress of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project.
Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are jointly participating in the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which aims to strengthen transport connectivity in Central Asia. This was reported by Dunyo News Agency, citing Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubayev.
According to the head of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry, the new highway will expand transport links between East and West and will impact the region's logistics configuration. Kulubayev called the project an example of trust between the Central Asian countries and noted its role in shaping a unified transport system for Eurasia.
The official launch of the railway construction took place on December 27, 2024, in Jalal-Abad. According to the project, the 532.53-kilometer line will run along the route Kashgar-Torugart-Makmal-Jalal-Abad-Andijan. Approximately 312 km of the railway will be built in Kyrgyzstan.
According to the intergovernmental agreement, the preliminary cost of the project is $4.7 billion. China will hold a 51% stake in the joint project company, while Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will each hold 24.5%.
The financing involves a 35-year loan from China of approximately $2.3 billion. The remaining funds will be contributed by the project participants to the authorized capital of the joint company in proportion to their shares.
In August 2026, Uzbek Transport Minister
Ilkhom Makhkamov told the Uzbekistan 24 television channel that construction could be completed at least a year ahead of the original deadline.
According to him, approximately 17% of the construction work had been completed by early August. Construction of eight major bridges is ongoing. More than 10,000 workers and over 7,000 pieces of specialized equipment are involved in the project.
The China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway project envisages the creation of a new route between China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan via Kashgar, Torugart, Makmal, and Jalal-Abad with an exit to Andijan.
