Korzinka announced the appointment of Pedro Martinho as CEO.
Uzbek supermarket chain Korzinka announced the appointment of Pedro Martinho as CEO. This decision was made following an international search organized by the company's Board of Directors. Martinho has relocated to Tashkent and officially assumed his duties on September 2, 2026.
The new leader brings to the company over 30 years of experience in leading grocery retail chains in Poland, Portugal, the Baltics, and Azerbaijan. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated extensive knowledge in sales management, merchandising, customer engagement, supply chain management, digital solutions implementation, and store operations.
Prior to joining Korzinka, Martinho worked at the Polish Eurocash Group, where he joined the Management Board in 2003. He played a key role in scaling the company, facilitating the expansion of the store network and investments in logistics and technology. His most recent position at Eurocash was CEO of Frisco.pl, a leading Polish online grocery retailer.
Zafar Khashimov, founder, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, and majority shareholder of Korzinka, expressed satisfaction with Pedro's joining a team that combines specialists with a deep understanding of the local market and executives with international retail experience.
Martinho himself noted that he sees in Uzbekistan the characteristics that made the Polish market attractive more than two decades ago: a dynamic economy, a rapidly growing population, rising consumer expectations, and long-term potential, reinforced by economic reforms.
Korzinka is a leading supermarket chain in Uzbekistan, founded in 1996. The company's market share in modern grocery retail is four times that of its nearest competitor. The company is developing a multi-format omnichannel model, including supermarkets, convenience stores, the Korzinka Go e-commerce platform, and the Korzinka Biznes B2B division. The company employs over 16,000 people.
In 2020, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development became a minority investor in Korzinka, marking the EBRD's first investment in Uzbekistan in ten years. In 2025, the company attracted $110 million in equity from international investors Abu Dhabi Uzbek Investment (ADUI) and Uzbek-Oman Investment Company (UzOman).
