Kim Jong Un has another child younger than his daughter — intelligence
The North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has another child younger than his daughter, who is seen as his successor. This was reported by the South Korean National Intelligence Service on September 10.
Seoul intelligence had previously stated that Kim Jong Un has three children. However, precise information regarding their number and ages was not available. The Kim dynasty has been ruling this closed state for three generations. The current leader's children could take over power in the future.
Kim Jong Un's daughter, Kim Ju Ae, first appeared in public in 2022. At that time, she attended an intercontinental ballistic missile launch ceremony with her father.
Initially, Seoul officials stated that Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol Ju had a son in 2010. Kim Ju Ae was considered to be their second child.
However, in 2023, South Korea's Unification Minister said that the government could not confirm the existence of an eldest son. The child reported by intelligence on September 10 is considered the youngest in the family.
"The intelligence service believes that Kim Ju Ae is being prepared as the successor. It also reports that she has a younger brother or sister whose gender is unknown," the agency's statement said.
North Korea keeps information about its leadership and ruling family strictly secret. For this reason, even basic information about Kim Jong Un's children is difficult to verify.
The intelligence agency continues to verify whether Kim Ju Ae has an older brother. However, even if he exists, he is not believed to be in a position to become the successor.
According to it, the age or gender of the children is considered a secondary issue in succeeding the father.
"Kim Jong Un himself inherited power as the third-generation leader, even though he was not the eldest son," the professor said.
"Therefore, he will consider which of his children is more capable of continuing his work," he added.
Since 2022, Kim Ju Ae has appeared alongside her father at many important political events, including a high-profile visit to Beijing.
North Korean state media refers to her as the "beloved child" and "great leader." Before 2022, her existence had only been confirmed by former NBA star Dennis Rodman. The basketball player visited North Korea several times between 2013 and 2017.
Kim Ju Ae has also drawn attention for her interest in expensive clothing. She has been seen wearing Gucci sunglasses and a Cartier wristwatch. At other times, she wears a leather jacket and black sunglasses, similar to her father.
Earlier, it was reported that despite being 13 years old, Kim Ju Ae is performing the duties of the head of nuclear forces. According to intelligence data, Ju Ae is operating as the general director of North Korea's missile system. Currently, she is receiving reports from military generals.
In some cases, she is even giving orders directly to the military, rather than to Jang Chang Ha, who has officially headed the Missile Administration since 2023. Kim Ju Ae regularly participates in nuclear and missile tests with her father.
