Kazakhstan, South Korea advance industrial cooperation with 51 joint projects

Kazakhstan and South Korea are deepening industrial cooperation through 51 joint projects, with discussions covering automotive manufacturing and a planned joint research and development park for the elevator industry during bilateral talks on the sidelines of the C5+1 meeting.

Kazakhstan’s Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev met with South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeong-kwan to assess current economic relations and explore new joint initiatives. Trade between Kazakhstan and South Korea totaled $1.3bn in the first half of 2026. According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Construction, the two countries’ industrial cooperation portfolio now includes 51 joint projects.

Among these, 23 production facilities have already been opened in Kazakhstan, generating 4,400 jobs in total. Automotive production was one of the key topics of the meeting. The sides reviewed ongoing projects involving KIA manufacturing in Kostanay and Hyundai vehicle assembly in Almaty.

The ministers also discussed ways to raise localization levels at these facilities and broaden the lineup of vehicle models produced in Kazakhstan. In addition, they considered plans for a joint Kazakh-South Korean research and development park for the elevator industry. The project is expected to be carried out as a joint venture and financed with support from a Korean grant.
