Kazakhstan approves Erlan Karin as Vice President, Olzhas Bektenov as PM

Kazakhstan's Kurultai has given its approval to Erlan Karin as Vice President and Olzhas Bektenov as Prime Minister. These appointments came after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev put forward their nominations, with both individuals securing majority backing in the subsequent vote.

President Tokayev explained that the Vice President role is enshrined in Kazakhstan's Constitution and plays a distinct part in the nation's administrative framework. He put forward Erlan Karin for the position, highlighting Karin's extensive background in government and his participation in significant reform initiatives.

Tokayev assigned Karin several duties, including acting as the Head of State's representative in discussions with the Kurultai, the Government, and other state entities on critical public policy matters. For the Prime Minister nomination, Tokayev put forward Olzhas Bektenov, having considered the perspectives of political party faction leaders within the Kurultai. The President characterized Bektenov as a seasoned state official and a professional who had previously led the Government.

The President also laid out the Government's immediate priorities, which include fostering consistent economic growth, enhancing the efficiency of public administration, and continuously improving the quality of life for citizens. He directed the Government to ensure seamless collaboration among state bodies, reinforce executive discipline, and concentrate its efforts on achieving quantifiable outcomes.

Tokayev further drew attention to the extensive infrastructure development projects currently underway throughout Kazakhstan. He emphasized that bolstering independence and sovereignty, along with the nation's continued progress, remain paramount objectives.

Following the voting process, the Kurultai officially approved both Karin and Bektenov with a majority of votes. President Tokayev expressed his gratitude to the deputies for their support of the candidates.
