Japan’s Trust Engineering Partners is considering a silk industry project in Uzbekistan
Fergana region Governor Khayrullo Bozorov met with a delegation from the company on October 8, the regional administration said.
The discussions centered on proposals from the Japanese side to begin silk production and broaden cooperation in the sector.
Representatives of Trust Engineering Partners said they were interested in launching operations in Uzbekistan, especially in Fergana region. The company put forward a project aimed at developing sericulture and restoring the country’s traditional silk industry.
The two sides noted that the Fergana Valley has stood at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road for centuries, with sericulture and silk production traditions evolving there over time.
Several projects are now being carried out in Fergana region to develop the industry and create new production facilities.
Bozorov said Fergana’s experience and existing potential in sericulture could attract Japanese investors and promised the region’s support for the proposed project.
The sides also discussed the possibility of carrying out the project through a public-private partnership.
They agreed to keep assessing the region’s potential, draw up a roadmap and create a phased implementation plan for the project.
