When and against whom will Islam Makhachev's next fight be?
UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev intends to return to the octagon soon after his five-round fight with Yan Machado Gerry. At a press conference after the UFC 330 tournament in Philadelphia, the Russian fighter announced his plans.
"We have to fight one more time before Ramadan. I should go to the octagon in January or by the end of the year. I'm not a twenty-year-old anymore, I'm 34 and I need to fight as often as possible. I'm not losing much weight, I don't have any serious injuries. Maybe I need to get my nose checked again, but that's enough," Makhachev said.
Makhachev also noted that he has not yet fully adapted to the welterweight category and wants to get physically stronger before the next fight: "Hard fights wear you down, and I feel that I have become even stronger. I still need to gain weight and become stronger, and I have time for that. This fight showed that no matter how easy or difficult the fight is, for me it is a real war from the first second to the last." When asked who his next opponent will be, the Russian fighter said that he would choose Carlos Prates, who has long been worthy of a title fight.
