‘Iran Tried to Kill One of My Sons’ — Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on August 24 that Iran had attempted to assassinate one of his sons. However, he did not provide any further details about when the attempt occurred, which son was targeted or how serious the plot was.

Netanyahu’s claim adds to the already tense situation since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran, which has killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior Iranian officials.

Netanyahu spoke about the assassination attempt on his son in a telephone interview with Israel’s Channel 14. The channel, known for its support for the government, was responding to reports that one of the Israeli security services had refused to protect a political opponent.

“As for my sons, there is something completely unbelievable here. Yes, Iran has targeted one of my sons. Iran has tried to kill, to assassinate one of my sons,” Netanyahu said.

“They tried to kill my son, so the security protection is not just a luxury,” he added.

However, he did not provide any further details about the plan. It was not immediately clear which son the prime minister was referring to. Instead, Netanyahu’s eldest son, Yair, lives in Miami, USA.

Iran’s mission to the UN in New York did not comment on the allegation. Netanyahu also said he had told David Zini, the head of the Shin Bet security service, that any candidate for prime minister should be provided with appropriate security.

It was previously reported that Yair Netanyahu changed his last name to Yonatan Hon. He did this at a time when his family was embroiled in corruption and war crimes scandals.
