Iran adds several Persian media outlets abroad to military target list

Iran adds several foreign Persian media outlets to its military target list.

The Iranian armed forces announced on August 26 that they had added several Persian media outlets operating abroad to their military targets. Tehran accuses them of serving US and Israeli intelligence agencies.

In a statement broadcast on state television, armed forces spokesman Abolfazl Shakarchi listed BBC Persian, Iran International and Radio Farda among the outlets.

"These hostile media outlets are the soldiers of Zionism and America. They are all on our military target list," Shakarchi said.

He accused the TV channels and radio stations of having direct links to Mossad, the US and enemy intelligence agencies.

"The Iranian armed forces do not consider these outlets to be media outlets," he added.

However, the military spokesman did not specify where exactly these publications would be targeted. Iranian authorities have long accused Persian media outlets based abroad of collaborating with Israel. In particular, the Iranian government designated Iran International TV channel as a terrorist organization in 2022. Officials warn that collaborating with this channel is punishable under Iranian law.
