According to information provided in the DW online chronology, vote counting continues in many states following the elections held on November 3. According to the latest preliminary tally from the source, Democrats hold 45 seats and Republicans hold 36 seats in terms of total Senate seats. The winners for the remaining seats have not yet been determined.

One of the fiercest battles is taking place in Texas. According to CNN, Democrat James Talarico is leading significantly over Republican Ken Paxton in the Senate race. Republicans worry that the state's incumbent governor, Greg Abbott, could also lose his re-election bid. However, results coming from rural areas are expected to narrow the party's deficit.

In traditionally conservative states such as South Carolina, Ohio, Iowa, and Kansas, Republican candidates are also trailing Democrats in preliminary counts. In Nebraska, a Republican candidate is losing to an independent candidate. Final winners in these states have not yet been determined.

According to a forecast by the Associated Press, Democrat Roy Cooper will win the Senate election in North Carolina over Republican Michael Whatley. Thus, Democrats are expected to gain a Senate seat held by Republicans for the first time in this election. Cooper will replace Republican Thom Tillis, who announced his retirement from politics.

AP also predicts victories for Democrat Chris Pappas in New Hampshire, Jon Ossoff in Georgia, and Mark Warner in Virginia. Democrats are also expected to win Senate races in Colorado, New Mexico, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

Meanwhile, Republicans are projected to hold Senate seats in Kentucky, Oklahoma, Florida, West Virginia, and Wyoming. In particular, Andy Barr in Kentucky, Kevin Hern in Oklahoma, and Ashley Moody in Florida are expected to win.

Preliminary forecasts have also been announced for the gubernatorial elections. AP expects Democrats to win in nine states in total — Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, Georgia, and Colorado. In Florida and Wyoming, Republican candidates are projected to win.

Midterm elections in the US are held in the middle of a president's four-year term. This time, voters are electing all members of the House of Representatives, one-third of the Senate, as well as governors of certain states and local government representatives.
