Infantino arrives in Tashkent as fallout grows over abandoned World Cup stake plan

A FIFA delegation headed by President Gianni Infantino has arrived in Uzbekistan for an official visit.

Sports Minister Adham Ikramov and the first vice president of the Uzbekistan Football Association, Ravshan Ermatov, greeted the delegation on arrival.

The visit comes as Infantino faces increasing pressure at home. He had tried to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors, including Joshua Kushner. Under the plan, known as FIFA Forward Enterprise, FIFA’s broadcasting, sponsorship, ticketing and licensing rights would have been combined with the operational delivery of its tournaments. Infantino has since dropped the proposal, and UEFA has threatened FIFA with legal action over it.
