In the Irkutsk Oblast, a complex of verification and preventive measures has been completed following the death of 28-year-old anti-plague institute employee Darya Shipilova. The authorities reported that no violations were found in the work with dangerous microorganisms, and no health problems were detected in people who had been in contact with the deceased. Community-acquired pneumonia was named as the cause of death of 28-year-old Darya Shipilova.
The region's governor, Igor Kobzev, also specified that Shipilova had been vaccinated and possessed immunity to the dangerous infections she worked with. He added that the sanitary and epidemiological situation in Irkutsk and Shelekhov remains calm.
Summing up, Kobzev called the incident an ordeal for the region and stated that specialists had handled the situation with dignity.
Rospotrebnadzor also reported that there are no threats to the health of the region's population.
As a reminder, Shipilova died on the night of October 2 in Shelekhov, a satellite city of Irkutsk. Following her death, authorities isolated about 200 people who could have been in contact with her. Media outlets also reported on quarantines in several hospitals in Irkutsk.
Against the backdrop of the incident, speculations spread on social media and in the press that the woman could have died of pneumonic plague after contracting it at work.
Earlier, the World Health Organization requested additional information from the Russian authorities regarding the causes of death and the measures taken in the region.
