In South Korea, an Uzbek citizen has been detained on suspicion of assaulting a local taxi driver
In the South Korean city of Hwaseong, an Uzbek citizen in his 30s is suspected of brutally beating a 50-year-old local taxi driver. The incident occurred on October 18 in the Hyangnam area.
According to law enforcement agencies, the suspect attempted to illegally transport passengers in his own vehicle. When a local taxi driver tried to prevent this and film the violation on camera, the driver struck him in the jaw. As a result, the victim lost consciousness and fell to the ground. CCTV footage shows the attacker continuing to punch and kick the unconscious man lying on the ground, after which he fled the scene without providing first aid.
Korean police identified the suspect on October 22 through the analysis of video recordings. He will be summoned for an official interrogation in the near future, and depending on the results of the victim's medical report, the charges filed against him may be upgraded.
Local law enforcement officers note that the practice of illegal passenger transportation organized through the Telegram messaging app is widespread in Hwaseong. In May of this year, cases against 29 foreigners, including Uzbeks involved in such illegal activities, were already referred to the prosecutor's office. By the end of the year, the police and the immigration service plan to step up joint inspection and control raids aimed at curbing illegal transportation.
