Man buried alive in Samarkand dies after 28 days in a coma
A 32-year-old man who was beaten and buried alive by a group of individuals in the Payariq district of the Samarkand region has died after spending nearly a month in a coma.
It is reported that the 32-year-old young man, a resident of the Navruz neighborhood, was returning home from a diner with his acquaintance when a white Spark blocked their path. The individuals who got out of the car rushed at him and began striking him on the head with rebar.
According to an eyewitness to the incident, he tried to protect his friend and pull the rebar out of the attackers' hands. At that moment, the rest of the group turned on him as well and began hitting him with stones.
"It was around 11–12 at night. Sherbek and I were coming out of the diner. When we turned toward our house on the road, a white Spark blocked our way and stopped. They got out of the car with rebar in their hands and began hitting Sherbek on the head as a group. Seeing this, I ran out of the car and tried to take the rebar from their hands. At that moment, they started hitting me too. They began hitting me with large stones. When I looked, Sherbek was lying on the asphalt without a t-shirt, covered in blood. They were kicking and hitting him. When I jumped over the mesh fence, they were forcing Sherbek into the car," said the deceased's friend who witnessed the incident.
According to the deceased's brother, the victim was taken to an uninhabited area about three kilometers away from the neighborhood center. He was found there in critical condition.
"When I first saw him, I thought my brother had died. Around him were bloody vomit, pieces of concrete, and wire. It was clear he had been strangled; the area above his neck had turned blue. Hope awakened in me after I heard some kind of sound from his lungs. Then I loaded him into the car and took him away," said the deceased's brother.
According to him, his brother was struck on the head multiple times, and his forehead and the sides of his head were swollen. At the hospital, more than three liters of blood were drained from Sherbek's lungs.
"They didn't just beat him and leave him with bodily injuries. If they had left him by the main road, someone might have helped him. They took him to a remote place and buried him. When he was buried, he suffocated and got up. Then they strangled him again with wire and hit him on the head with rebar and concrete," his brother said.
The deceased's wife noted that her husband was injured beyond recognition and spent 28 days in a coma.
What caused the conflict has not yet been disclosed. The deceased's brother stated that he did not know all the attackers well and that there was no feud between them and his family. However, he mentioned that there were witnesses who saw his brother arguing and scuffling with them two days before the incident.
Hamidulla Sagdullayev, head of the press service of the Internal Affairs Department of the Samarkand Region, reported that a criminal case was initially initiated under Part 2 of Article 104 of the Criminal Code. After the victim died, the case was reclassified under paragraph "d" of Part 3 of the same article.
A preventive measure in the form of detention has been applied to the accused. Currently, investigative actions are being conducted by the Investigation Department under the Internal Affairs Department of the Samarkand Region.
They forced the victim into the car, took him to the Bobotog area, beat him again, and left him in front of the hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life.
